Synopsis

In the remote reaches of Montana’s Crazy Mountains, professional skier Griffin Post embarks on a backcountry ski expedition, inspired as much by terrain as by history–where snowfields and couloirs are bordered not only by cliffs and cornices, but by centuries-old land ownership patterns currently being contested in the nation’s highest courts. What begins as a ski mission quickly becomes something far more complex. Facing avalanche terrain, brutal winter conditions, and a legal landscape as steep as the surrounding peaks, Post and a team of elite snowsport athletes navigate invisible boundary lines to examine the importance and fragility of public land access. At the heart of their journey lies a national paradox: millions of acres of public land that the public cannot legally reach. These inaccessible acres have long been a rallying point for hunters, but much of the outdoor community remains unaware of what’s at stake. Through Post’s rare lens as both skier and hunter, Inaccessible exposes a divide within the outdoor community and calls for unity in a time when public land access is no longer a guarantee. As the team pushes deeper into this fractured landscape, their search for memorable lines becomes a reckoning with a bigger question: Who gets to access, and ultimately own, America’s public lands?
