Filmmaker
Joe is a documentary cinematographer and filmmaker currently based between Salt Lake City and the Pacific Northwest. Raised between Wyoming, Washington, and Alaska, the American West is where he draws most of his inspiration. Along with his handheld and intimate style, he brings a calming, empathetic, and intentional presence to every project he works on. Between 2015-2018 he was based in Kenya working across the East-African region. He has since worked on various expeditions, docuseries, films, and non-fiction TV all over the world.
Most recently Joe worked as primary DP on the Oscar-Shortlisted documentary short Between Earth and Sky, which won best short at Big Sky Doc Fest, and has gone on to screen at Hot Docs, Mountainfilm, Sheffield, DocNYCand many more. He has been behind the camera for multiple documentary films including HBO’s The Last Cruise and Matthew Heinemann’s The First Wave. Joe has worked on projects for Sony Alpha, National Geographic, Hulu, HBO Documentaries, The New York Times, and more.
